When you think of a Japanese stylist working overseas, you would probably expect them to work in Korea, USA, or here in Singapore. But it’s rare to find a Japanese stylist with almost half a decade’s experience in Hanoi, Vietnam!
Yes, Mika worked there for 4.5 years. After working in a high-end salon in Osaka for 10 years and another salon for 5 years, she decided that she needed a new challenge.
Namely, she was curious to see if her technique could stand the test in other countries. To test her skills on a worldwide scale and learn English, she decided on Vietnam.
You would think that one would get a confirmed placement before travelling there, but Mika courageously travelled there alone, contacted salons by herself, and personally met all the salon owners.
Like us, the many salon owners and staff respected her courage and initiative, and she soon found a job in Hanoi.
She stayed on for 4.5 years, where she served 80% Japanese expats and 20% local Vietnamese. This meant she was exposed to different client requirements and environmental conditions, but it also meant she wasn’t able to practise much English.
However, she is pretty fluent in Vietnamese, so if you want to find a Vietnamese-speaking hairstylist, Mika is the one!
Here in Singapore, she will challenge herself to pick up English quickly while attending to an entirely new client demographic.
If you’re in need of any new hair change, we recommend giving Mika a try. Overall, she’s a skilled and experienced stylist who specialises in effortless haircuts and natural balayage. Her customers love that she’s easy to talk to, her attention to detail, and that her hairstyles are long-lasting and easy to maintain.
Definitely give her a go if you’re looking for a new hairstyle! Plus, she has experience in head spas, so she always gives a satisfying head massage during the hair wash.
